Wednesday 30 April – Friday 2 May 2008, Christchurch, New Zealand
i-Rec is the International Group for Research and Information on Post-Disaster Reconstruction. i-Rec is a web-based international network focused on the study of reconstruction after disasters.
Why a Conference on Reconstruction?Should New Zealand or any other country be struck by a major disaster, there will be a need to rapidly rebuild and repair critical infrastructure, housing and commercial premises.
International experience highlights that delivering a fast, effective and affordable reconstruction effort is fraught with challenges. All countries must consider in advance how to best use limited construction resources, what planning and legislation changes might be needed to speed the reconstruction process, and to ensure that opportunities are taken to 'rebuild back better'.
This conference will bring together leading international experts in post-disaster reconstruction and will provide a valuable opportunity for those in the construction industry, NGO's, emergency managers, insurers and planners to come together to learn, debate and work together to develop solutions.
Conference ThemesThe 4th international i-Rec conference will focus on several key areas that contribute to the reconstruction: Project management and stakeholder participation
