A 5-steps case study approach has been conceived and applied in the framework of Resilient Organisations project for the analysis of the Organisations Resilience

10 Case studies have been analysed according the 5-steps case study approach

public and private organisations
for-profit and not-for-profit organisations
large and small organisations
lifeline and non-lifeline organisations
Subsequentes Stages for the implementation of the 5-steps case study approach
a) In-depth interviews to gain insight into the readiness/preparedness, and perceived vulnerabilities of the organisation
b) Draft feedback to the organisation highlighting issues arising in the interviews
c) Team workshop
d) A readiness exercise designed to move the organisation up the resilience learning curve in the context of a disaster scenari
e) A final report summarising the outcomes of the various stages of the case study thus providing a bridge for further action to build resilience in the organisation over time
Early Outcomes from the implementation of the 5-steps case study approach
the 5-steps case study approach organisational resilience has been very effective for highlighting:
The lack of integration across departments within an organisation
The critical dependencies on other organisations (such as along supply chains)
The need to develop strategies for managing resilience across organisational boundaries
A major outcome has been the feedback that the case study process has significantly heightened the organisations’ awareness of resilience issues and the need for improved organisational processes
