Potential impacts for Organisations
Unexpected events, such as major hazards events, have the potential to impact on nearly all facets of an organisation influencing the length of time that essential services are unavailable and the duration of recovery for the community as a whole |
 |
The breadth of potential impacts includes:
Human impact - (i.e. loss of key staff or absence of large number of staff)
Direct physical impact - (partial or total damage to the organisation facilities)
Interruption to lifeline services - (including water, electricity, gas, sewage and transportation)
Delays and increased costs for repairs – (i.e. shortages of builders or trades after a major events)
Reduced delivery performance from suppliers
Potential changes in customer purchasing behaviour
There is a need therefore to understand:
- the degree to which organisations might be impacted
To challenge organisations to start thinking more broadly about the degree to which they might be impacted by adverse events, this programme uses four different consequence scenarios to explore resilience:
- the capability of organisations for responding and recovering from these impacts
The ability of an organisation to respond effectively to adverse events depends on their structure, the management and operational systems they have in place, and the collective resilience of these.
