Designing according to the end-user’s needs

The conception and design of technical solutions within Objective2 are guided by the constant interaction with the end-users

A Dynamic Geographical Information System - DGIS tool is developed as part of Resilient Organisation Objective 2 programme

The DGIS tool will help multiple roading organisations to: 1) Collect, 2) Collate, 3)Communicate data and information that support the deployment of resources during response and recovery activities

The DGIS tool will provide access to information characterising the disaster’s intensity, location and related damages, as well as the availability of human and physical resources

The DGIS tool will support the end-users and will facilitate the sharing of information with coordinating authorities, key responding organisations and emergency services and intra-organisational exchange of data according to several layers of responsibilities and territorial jurisdictions

DGIS - Data/Information framework for roading organisations

In order to design DGIS tool according to the end’s user need:

  1. the information sharing framework (DGIS) has been developed according to the end-user needs previously collected and analysed
  2. desktop case study exercise has been developed to assess the benefits, in terms of increased efficiency of the response activities, of using DGIS (Dantas and Seville, 2005)
