Joanne is a Senior Research Consultant with Resilient Organisations Ltd and an Adjunct Senior Fellow with the Department of Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Canterbury.
Joanne is a social systems researcher, whose work explores vulnerability, recovery, and resilience of social-ecological and socio-economic systems; organisation and social network theory; and the role of place and space in organisational decision-making and outcomes.
She has a BSc in Environmental Science (High Honours, 2007) from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and an MSc in Geography (High Honours, 2010) from the University of South Carolina. Joanne completed her PhD in Geography and Commerce at the University of Canterbury in 2014.
Her thesis entitled Organisational Resilience a Contextual Approach explores the role of place embeddedness and social networks on organisations’ decision making and recovery trajectories following the Canterbury earthquake series.
